The Beginning

Over the past few months I've been doing a little research.  I didn't want to jump into any business ideas totally blind so I began to research and this is what I've found so far.  Before I do anything my craft that I wish to sale should be determined first.  In other words I should not try and start a business selling 5 different craft items.  In the long run this will be easier for me to handle.  I should make something that I enjoy and would do for free.  Also, I should figure out who I plan to sell these items to.  Have a market because you can't please everybody and if you try to, you might just drive yourself insane.  Put a story of your product on the tag or on a card to put into the packaging, or you can give the item a name.  You know when you go into a beauty supply store and the wigs have names, try that, it gives the items a little life.  Make a theme for your shop and have it going throughout the pictures, tags, even your other sites that you may sell on.  market your items or else no one will find your shop, tell friends, family, post on other sites ads spaces (free ones if you have little to no start up funds, like me).
Currently I'm building my knowledge on free sites that let people set up shop (they are all not totally free, most take a percentage of your sales and charge to list items).  There are many so I am spending my days going through those.  I will post some of my favorites later.  Don't linger so long that you scare yourself out of even starting a business.

My favorite place to snoop right now is of course "Etsy". It is where many crafters have made a shop of their own to sell gorgeously made handmade or vintage items.  You can go on the forum and look around at the topics and find out what others are doing and there is even a guide on Etsy just for beginners (If you don't mind reading that is).  Since I feel as though I'm rambling, that is it for today. Leave comments and check back later for new discoveries.
